"The consortium led by Mota-Engil submitted a new environmental compliance report (RECAPE) in May for the Porto-Lisbon high-speed rail section through Vila Nova de Gaia, after the previous proposal was rejected by the Portuguese Environment Agency in December 2025. The new plan features a 70-meter deep underground station at Santo Ovídio and a single road-rail bridge over the Douro. Public consultation will last 15 days, with construction expected to start in the last quarter of 2026. The contract is valued at €1.66 billion, with operations targeted for 2030."
