Ireland plans 600 MW energy storage facility for €2 billion (heise.de)

• 600 MW hydrogen energy storage planned in County Carlow

"Irish company Net Zero Energy (NZE) plans to build the Rathrush Green Energy Park in County Carlow, a 600 MW energy storage facility. Surplus wind and solar energy will be converted into green hydrogen and stored in lined rock caverns. During peak demand, hydrogen will power turbines to generate electricity. The project costs €2 billion. The facility will be 30 times larger than Turlough Hill pumped storage and is expected to save 180,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually. Public consultation is underway; planning application may be submitted by end of 2026."
