Europe's First Fossil-Free Natural Gas Becomes a Reality in Extremadura, Spain: Produced from Green Hydrogen and CO2 (xataka.com)
- EU selects T2X project in Extremadura for Hydrogen Bank funding; first green gas injection into European grid.
- Technology: Power-to-Gas using Sabatier reaction with green H2 and biogenic CO2.
- 9 MW electrolyser, 6,390 t H2 over 10 years, €0.62/kg premium; PPA with Axpo/Aquila.
"The European Commission has selected the T2X project in Extremadura (Spain) under the third European Hydrogen Bank auction, making it the first in Europe to inject green gas directly into the distribution grid. The plant uses Power-to-Gas technology: combining green hydrogen with biogenic CO2 (via Sabatier reaction) to produce synthetic methane. It has a 9 MW electrolyser, expected to produce 6,390 tonnes of renewable hydrogen over 10 years, receiving a fixed premium of €0.62/kg. Turn2X signed a PPA with Axpo Iberia and Aquila Clean Energy. Spain adds €440M under 'Auctions as a Service'."
