"A 1.65-MW wind turbine at the University of Minnesota's West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) in Morris, Minnesota, is being used to produce zero-carbon green ammonia fertilizer. The turbine powers an on-site chemical plant that uses electrolysis to split water and an air-separation unit to capture nitrogen, combining them under pressure to produce ammonia. The pilot plant produces approximately one metric ton of green ammonia daily, which is stored and distributed to local farmers. The project aims to reduce reliance on imported synthetic fertilizer, which costs Minnesota farmers nearly $1 billion annually."
