German Social Insurance Agencies Test Open-Source Suite openDesk as Emergency Workplace (heise.de)

• German Pension Insurance and Federal Employment Agency tested openDesk as emergency workplace in CKKI project.
• Four organizations installed openDesk on different clouds (Ionos, Stackit, T-Systems) and tested files, chat, mail, and video.
• Migration between cloud platforms successful; results to feed into EU 8ra initiative.
• Over 100,000 government workstations use openDesk, but federal agencies only 8,756 licenses.

"Germany's Federal Pension Insurance and Federal Employment Agency have successfully tested the open-source collaboration suite openDesk as an emergency workplace solution. The CKKI project (Cloud-based Communication for Critical Infrastructures) ran from January to July 2026. Four organizations installed separate openDesk instances on different cloud platforms (Ionos, Stackit, T-Systems). Modules for files, chat, email, and video conferencing were tested in crisis scenarios and deemed suitable. Migration between cloud platforms also succeeded. Results will feed into the EU's 8ra initiative for sovereign cloud infrastructure."
