"NASA's X-59 QueSST experimental aircraft completed its first supersonic flight on June 5, 2026, at Edwards Air Force Base, California. Pilot Jim Less reached Mach 1.1 (about 1150 km/h) at an altitude of 13.2 km during an 81-minute flight. The X-59 is a testbed for quiet supersonic technology, aiming to enable future supersonic passenger aircraft that can fly over land. Built by Lockheed Martin, the first flight occurred in October 2025. The next milestone is a Mach 1.4 flight at 17 km altitude planned for the coming days."
