"The European Commission confirmed on May 29, 2026 that Portugal can partially suspend biometric data collection at airports during peak times, as permitted by the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) regulation until September. Portugal activated the legal mechanism due to long queues at Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport. Interior Minister Luís Neves stated the suspension does not compromise security. The airport received 48 additional PSP officers and more e-gates."
