RFA tests Helix 2.0 power pack at Esrange (esa.int)
- Two successful hot fire tests of Helix 2.0 power pack at Esrange Space Center
- Helix 2.0 targets 200 kN thrust, double Helix 1.0, with comparable mass and cost
- Test funded by ESA FLPP Thrust! initiative with €9 million ESA contribution
"Rocket Factory Augsburg (RFA) has completed two successful hot fire tests of a new power pack for an upgraded version of its Helix rocket engine at Esrange Space Center in Sweden. The Helix 2.0 engine is designed to deliver 200 kN thrust, double its predecessor, while keeping mass and cost comparable. The test was supported by ESA's Future Launcher Preparatory Programme (FLPP) 'Thrust!' initiative, which aims to demonstrate staged combustion technology in Europe. The power pack pumps liquid oxygen and RP-1 fuel at high pressure. RFA is preparing for the first test flight of its RFA One rocket from SaxaVord Spaceport in the UK."
