"The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) released a report on its 2025 Coordinated Enforcement Framework action regarding the Right to Erasure (GDPR Art. 17). Evaluating 764 controllers across Europe, the study revealed systemic failures, including poor internal procedures, inadequate anonymization techniques replacing actual deletion, and technical difficulties removing data from backups. The report notes that organizations struggle with balancing the right to erasure against other legal obligations. To improve compliance, the EDPB intends to leverage existing national templates and guidance to harmonize enforcement across the EU, ensuring consistent implementation for individuals and controllers alike."
