"Admiral Guido Venturoni (born 1934 in Teramo) served as Chairman of the NATO Military Committee from May 1999 to June 2002. He graduated from the Italian Naval Academy, became a naval aviator and helicopter pilot, commanded various ships and units, served as Commander-in-Chief of the Fleet, and from 1994 as Chief of the Italian Defence Staff. His appointment as Chairman took effect on 6 May 1999."
