"Two migrants are suing Italy at the European Court of Human Rights over its release of a Libyan warlord wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity. The man from South Sudan and woman from Ivory Coast claim they were tortured in a detention center allegedly overseen by Osama Al-Masri Njeem. Italy arrested Njeem in January 2025 but released him within two days and flew him back to Libya. The plaintiffs argue Italy's failure to enforce the ICC warrant violated their rights under the European Convention on Human Rights."
