"Portugal's mortgage loans reached €114.6 billion in April 2026, a 10.7% year-on-year increase – the highest growth since February 2003. The Bank of Portugal reported the acceleration, far above the Eurozone average of 2.9%. The regulator plans to reduce the maximum debt-to-income ratio from 50% to 45% to curb household over-indebtedness."
