"In the early hours of May 29, 2026, a Russian Shahed drone crashed into a ten-story building in Galați, southeastern Romania, causing a fire and lightly injuring a woman and her child. Romanian authorities described the incident as a 'serious and irresponsible escalation'. Two F-16s were scrambled but did not engage. This marks the first time a drone has struck a residential building in Romania causing casualties. A second inert drone was found in Maramureș. Bucharest informed NATO and requested accelerated anti-drone capability transfers."
