"A growing number of news outlets are blocking the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine to prevent their content from being used for AI training. An analysis by the Nieman Journalism Lab found that between January and May 2026, the number of blocking sites rose by over 50% to 382. Most are local U.S. newspapers, but also large outlets like The New York Times. European media including El País and Le Monde are on the list, but no German outlets yet. The Internet Archive appears to comply with robots.txt blocks, unlike many AI companies."
