Delacroix‘s Entry of the Crusaders into Constantinople painting restored after conservation treatment (louvre.fr)

• Restoration took from May 2025 to April 2026.
• Yellowed varnish removed, original colors restored.
• Imaging revealed hidden elements including a corpse covered by banners.
• Painting back on display in Louvre‘s Red Rooms.

"The Louvre has completed a year-long restoration of Delacroix‘s 1840 painting 'Entry of the Crusaders into Constantinople'. The treatment removed yellowed varnish and revealed the artist‘s original colors and technique, including hidden details of violence. The painting is now back on display in the Red Rooms."
