"German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced on July 9, 2026, that Germany has reached an agreement with the United States to acquire Tomahawk cruise missiles. The missiles, with a range of 1,600–2,000 km, are intended to fill a strategic gap in conventional deterrence. Reports suggest around 400 missiles may be procured for over 1 billion euros. Germany is also pursuing European alternatives through the ELSA initiative and a cooperation with the UK under the Trinity House treaty."
