"The Austrian Alpine Club's 2024/25 glacier report, based on measurements from 79 glaciers across 17 regions, shows an average length decrease of 20.3 meters. This is the eighth highest value in 135 years of record-keeping. Although slightly less than the previous year's 24.1 meters, it continues a trend of extreme glacier loss. A snow-poor winter and a record-warm June in 2025 were primary drivers. Only two glaciers remained stable, while 94 of 96 measured glaciers retreated. The report also notes accelerating ice collapse and widespread surface lowering, with implications for Alpine water resources and tourism."
