Documents older than 30 years are systematically reviewed annually, with member states having a silence period for approval. Ad-hoc requests from researchers and journalists are also processed. Access is available via the Reading Room in Brussels and an online portal with over 105,000 freely downloadable PDFs. The archive officially opened in 1999."
