  • 1,500 new asteroids discovered in first-light images
  • Superfast rotator 2025 MN45 (700 m) spins in 1.88 minutes
  • Interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS found in Rubin data 10 days earlier

"The Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile has discovered 1,500 new asteroids in its first images, including 19 superfast rotators. The 700-meter asteroid 2025 MN45 spins every 1.88 minutes. The observatory also detected interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS ten days before its ATLAS discovery. Starting full survey this summer, Rubin is expected to generate 7 million alerts per night and find 250,000 Type Ia supernovae annually."
