French Army Renames 28th Geographic Group to 28th Geographic Artillery Regiment (opex360.com)

• 28e Groupe géographique becomes 28e Régiment d'artillerie géographique (RAG) effective 1 June 2026.
• No change in mission, strength (300-350), or structure.
• Unit provides geographic support (mapping, cartography, bathymetry, LiDAR) for operations.
• Renaming follows pattern: 17e Groupe d'artillerie became 17e RA, 14e RILP adjusted.

"On 1 June 2026, the French Army's 28th Geographic Group (28e GG) was officially renamed the 28th Geographic Artillery Regiment (28e RAG), with no change in mission, personnel strength, or structure. The unit, based in Haguenau with 300-350 personnel, provides geographic support to operational commands, including mapping, cartography, and bathymetry. The change, published in the Official Bulletin of the Armies in April 2026, follows a 2022 instruction on unit traditions. Similar renamings occurred for the 17th Artillery Group and 14th Parachute Logistics Regiment."
