"On 29 May 2026, Hungary's new Prime Minister Péter Magyar secured the release of 16.4 billion euros in EU funds, including the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) worth 10 billion euros, cohesion funds of 4.2 billion euros, and 2.2 billion euros for academic freedom. The funds were previously frozen due to rule-of-law concerns. To access them, Hungary must submit a revised RRF plan by June, obtain Ecofin approval in July, complete milestones by end of August, and submit payment requests in September. Disbursements could start in Q4 2026, testing Magyar's commitment to reforms."
