China deploys world's largest offshore converter station for deep-water wind power (xataka.com)
0xBASE INTEL BRIEF
- 25,000-tonne offshore converter station "Hai Feng Zhi Xin" shipped from Nantong to Yangjiang.
- Converts AC to DC enabling transmission over 100 km with minimal losses.
- Capacity 2,000 MW; will serve 163 turbines; produce 6 billion kWh/year.
- Part of China's plan to reach 100 GW offshore wind by 2030.
"China's state-owned ZPMC has shipped the world's largest offshore converter station, "Hai Feng Zhi Xin", from Nantong to Yangjiang. The 25,000-tonne platform converts AC to DC at 2,000 MW capacity, using ±500 kV flexible DC and pioneering ±525 kV submarine cables. It will connect 163 turbines at the Qingzhou V and VII offshore wind farms, enabling transmission beyond 100 km without significant losses. The project supports China's target of 100 GW offshore wind by 2030 and will supply 6 billion kWh/year to Guangdong."
