"The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is working on a global regulatory framework for retrofitting combustion-engine vehicles to electric power. A working group under the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations aims to complete harmonized rules by 2027, setting minimum requirements for conversion kits and performance standards. The current draft allows only authorized installers to perform conversions; DIY retrofits remain subject to national individual approvals. The group is led by France and Spain, supported by Sweden, Germany, the UK, Japan, and the European Commission. The next meeting is on June 11, 2026."
