"Armenian national Karen Serobovich Vardanyan, extradited from Ukraine, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and computer fraud in a US federal court for his role in the Ryuk ransomware operation. Between November 2019 and April 2020, he hacked US organizations including a Michigan company that paid 200 bitcoin (over $1.1 million at the time) to restore access. Vardanyan agreed to pay over $1.1 million in restitution but faces up to 15 years in prison. Ryuk operated from 2018-2020, causing significant damage."
