"Engineers at MIT have successfully tested a thumbnail-sized hybrid propulsion system for small satellites that combines chemical and electric thrust using a single fuel, ASCENT. This could enable inexpensive CubeSats to reach Mars and beyond. A NASA demonstration mission is planned for later this year."
