0xBASE INTEL BRIEF
  • US presses NATO to treat Chinese tech as security threat, not just commercial.
  • Wants 1.5% GDP defence spending used for network security and vendor removal.
  • Germany and Spain resist EU-wide Huawei ban; summit in Turkey to decide.

"The United States is urging NATO allies to treat Chinese technology in telecom networks as a security issue, not just a commercial one. Washington wants part of the new 1.5% GDP defence-related spending to be used for removing Huawei equipment and strengthening network security. The message was delivered in Brussels by State Department China coordinator Joshua Young, with Germany implicitly targeted. Germany and Spain resist an EU-wide ban, but the issue will be pressed at the NATO summit in Turkey in July."
