"The US Federal Communications Commission has granted approval for a test satellite called Earendil-1 by startup Reflect Orbital. The satellite will carry an 18x18-meter steerable thin-film reflector to beam sunlight to Earth at night. The FCC decision came despite fierce opposition from astronomers, who warn of severe impacts on night sky observations.
