"China is working on an electromagnetic launch system that accelerates rockets to supersonic speed before ignition. The Ziyang Commercial Aerospace Launch Technology Research Institute has conducted successful tests of key subsystems in 2025 and 2026. The system could be built on the Tibetan Plateau, where thinner air reduces aerodynamic drag. The goal is to drastically cut propellant use and theoretically reduce launch costs by an order of magnitude. The technology still faces enormous engineering hurdles."
