"China's economic growth between 1978 and 2022 was 290 times greater than the US during the Gilded Age and 20 times greater than Japan's postwar boom, according to data from Adam Tooze. China's coal consumption tripled from 2000 to 2024, and it now accounts for over half of global coal use while leading in solar and wind capacity additions. In purchasing power parity terms, China's GDP exceeded the US in 2014 and is now 31% higher."
