0xBASE INTEL BRIEF
  • MPIC-led study models accelerated EU energy transition to 2040
  • Net benefits of 100–600 billion euros estimated from economic, health, and security gains
  • Findings underscore value of accounting for climate, health, and economic costs of fossil fuels

"A study led by the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry finds that achieving EU climate neutrality by 2040 instead of 2050 could generate net benefits of 100–600 billion euros. The modeling accounts for infrastructure costs, fossil fuel import savings, health improvements from better air quality, and enhanced energy security. The analysis uses 2021–2023 fuel prices, which have since risen due to geopolitical tensions."
