"FlexBase is constructing a massive underground battery in Laufenburg, Switzerland. A 27-meter-deep trench houses a vanadium redox flow system with 1.5 GWh capacity, expandable to 2.1 GWh. The battery stores excess renewable energy and stabilizes the grid. Invinity Energy Systems provides the technology. The project is part of the Laufenburg Technology Centre, which also includes an AI data center. Commissioning is planned for 2029, with an investment of 1–5 billion CHF."
