0xBASE INTEL BRIEF
- Wind and solar generated 531 TWh in April 2026, gas 477 TWh.
- 22% of global electricity from wind and solar, 20% from gas.
- China +14%, EU +13%, UK +35% in renewable generation year-on-year.
"According to analysis by energy think tank Ember, wind and solar generated more electricity than gas globally for the first time ever in April 2026. Wind and solar produced 531 TWh (22% of global electricity), compared to 477 TWh from gas (20%). Output nearly doubled from April 2021 when wind and solar generated 245 TWh. Growth was driven by long-term renewable expansion, not the current energy crisis. Countries like China, the EU, and the UK saw significant increases."
