Ireland's Basic Income for the Arts pilot shows €1.39 return per €1 invested (assets.gov.ie)
- Benefit-cost ratio of 1.39 from the BIA pilot.
- Psychological wellbeing contributed €80 million of total benefits.
- National rollout would lower art prices by 9–25% and boost output by 10%.
"The Irish government's Basic Income for the Arts (BIA) pilot provided 2,000 artists with €325/week for three years. A cost-benefit analysis finds that for every €1 of public money invested, society received €1.39 in return. Net fiscal costs were offset by 37% through tax revenues and reduced social protection payments. Recipients increased time on artistic work by 4 hours/week, reduced non-arts employment by 3 hours, and reported significantly higher life satisfaction and lower anxiety. A national rollout would likely lower art prices by 9–25%."
