Proba-3 Mission reveals solar wind speeds exceed theoretical models (esa.int)
- 57 artificial eclipses executed since July 2025.
- 250 hours of high-resolution inner corona imaging.
- Solar wind speed observations challenge existing solar models.
"The European Space Agency's Proba-3 satellite pair has successfully performed 57 artificial solar eclipses since July 2025. By capturing 250 hours of high-resolution coronal footage, the mission has surpassed the data output equivalent of 5,000 Earth-based eclipse campaigns. Recent findings published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters indicate that solar wind structures in the inner corona travel three to four times faster than previously modeled. This data is critical for enhancing predictive capabilities regarding space weather events that impact satellite infrastructure and communication networks."
