"A US research team proposes weakening El Niño via strategic marine cloud brightening, based on data from the 2019/2020 Australian bushfires. Simulations for the strong 2015 and 1997 El Niños showed potential for reducing sea surface temperatures and enhancing subsequent La Niña cooling. The method is regionally and temporally limited, unlike global geoengineering. The study was published in Science Advances. No implementation plans exist."
